Friday, except for holidays and when staff commitments do not permit
these hours.
After-hours
access - Unless special arrangements have been made, only
researchers with a key may be in the herbarium after hours.
After-hour users are responsible for turning off all lights and
locking the doors.
Smoking
- No smoking or tobacco use is allowed in the herbarium or in G. L. Cross Hall.
Pets
- No pets or animals are allowed in the herbarium.
Food
& beverage - No food or beverages are allowed in the
herbarium (room 206).
Library
- The Herbarium library is a non-circulating library. Library materials may only be taken out of the library with permission of herbarium staff and signature on a loan sheet. Persons with office space in the herbarium may use library materials at their desk for short periods of time but should indicate with a note card where materials are placed.
Plant material (living or dead) - Absolutely NO untreated (frozen sufficiently or fumigated) plant material of any kind (living or dead) may be brought into the herbarium.
NOTE WELL: Specimen
fumigation - ALL incoming plant material, whether shipped, hand-carried, or removed from a plant press, must be boxed and frozen in the Ultra-Low Freezer (-30oC) for at least one week. Please check with Amy Buthod for procedures and for putting material in the queue for freezing. Upon adequate treatment, all plant materials must be stored in a herbarium cabinet.
Treatment protocols for supplies, books, papers, etc - All papers, books, reprints, and materials entering the herbarium must be placed in the -20oC freezer immediately and must remain in the freezer for a minimum of 48 hours. If items have been exposed to conditions where insects may have been a problem, then all materials should be run through the -30oC freezer for one week as per incoming plant material.
Collecting
equipment - Plant presses and plant driers are available to students and faculty and to those involved in herbarium-approved projects. Please consult with the herbarium staff to sign out equipment. Driers are located in room 212 GLCH.

collections is contingent upon adherence to rules and regulations of
the Bebb Herbarium.
