Shrub to 2.5 m (8 ft) tall. Stems brown, glabrous, more or less striate. Leaves 10-20 cm (4-8 in) long. Leaflets 7-21, oblong to obovate, 2-3 cm (0.8-1.2 in) long and 1-2 cm (0.4-0.8 in) wide, conspicuously gland-dotted below, cuneate to notched at apex. Inflorescence of two or more slender racemes 15-30 cm (6-12 in) long. Flowers numerous, small, blue or purple, with conspicuously gland-dotted calyx tube. Fruits legumes about 5 mm (0.15 in) long, conspicuously gland-dotted.
Distribution: Found in scattered locations in east Texas and southeastern Oklahoma.
Habitat: Creek banks and road ditches.
NWI status: none
Comment: Amorpha means "without form" and refers to the one-petaled flowers; laevigata refers to the smooth leaves.
