Membership Information

Membership in the Association is open to any person interested in the biology, natural history, and conservation of the flora and fauna of the southwestern United States, Mexico, and Central America.

Membership categories include: Regular, Student, Family, Sustaining, Contributing, Emeritus, and Life Members, as well as Patrons. A Family Member must be a member of a family that also contains a Regular, Student, Sustaining, Contributing, Emeritus, or Life Member. Student, Family, Sustaining, and Contributing members receive all the benefits accorded to Regular Members, except a Family Member does not receive The Southwestern Naturalist. Anyone, after being a member of the Association for 20 years, may request Emeritus status. Because Emeritus Members pay no dues, they will receive notices of meetings and other general information about the Association, but not The Southwestern Naturalist. Any member, upon payment of a lump sum or four consecutive annual installments equal to 20 times the Regular Member dues, shall be entitled to become a Life Member and shall be exempt from annual membership dues from the time of the initial payment. Life Membership is conferred upon completion of payment. Benefactors who contribute a gift to the Association as specified by the Board of Governors shall be recognized as Patrons. The Board of Governors may confer Life Membership on Patrons.

Membership is for one calendar year in all categories except for Life Member. Formal election of new members is held at each Annual Business Meeting. A majority vote of the voting members is required for election.

Members are entitled to participate in the Annual Business Meeting, to vote, to serve as Officers, to serve on the Board of Governors, and to receive The Southwestern Naturalist free of charge.

The Southwestern Association of Naturalists has a searchable directory of members on its web site. If you wish to be included in this directory, please provide the following information with your membership application or renewal: name, address, phone, FAX, e-mail address, and area(s) of primary interest (birds, fishes, herps, invertebrates, mammals, plants). This information will facilitate communication among society members and others interested in the flora and fauna of the southwestern United States, Mexico, and Central America.
