Notes: Sometimes confused with sycamore from a
distance. However, a quick glance at
the bark will resolve the situation. An
important timber tree, widely used in furniture manufacture because it
resembles black walnut when stained. Liquidambar refers to the
amber-colored
sap; styraciflua is derived from a Latin phrase meaning "storax
fluid".
