The teaching of evolution in high school science classes continues to be a controversial subject. In Oklahoma and many other states the quality of science education is under serious and ongoing attack from anti-science groups. This has recently taken the form of (multiple) bills in the state legislature that would introduce so-called alternatives to evolution in science classes. Evolution is the central organizing concept in biology and there are no scientifically testable alternatives to explain the diversity of life. Any ideas that are not testable using scientific methods are not science and such ideas have no place in school science curricula. All such efforts to diminish the teaching of science should be vigorously opposed. Please see Oklahomans for Excellence in Science Education for recent news and more information.
